Context

Picture a bustling street in India, filled with vibrant small shops. Before the pandemic it thrived on shoppers strolling in and out, looking for unique finds and chatting with shopkeepers. Then COVID-19 arrived. Fear of the virus, the convenience of online shopping and lockdowns left small and medium shop owners struggling to keep their businesses alive.

In that new normal the giants with an online presence thrived while the little guys faced extinction. NowFloats, a Hyderabad-based SaaS company, set out to bridge that gap and give small businesses a fighting chance.

Approach

How the work was made.

Phase 1 — Process

Deep dives to hand-off

The journey began with deep dives, stakeholder interviews and workshops that let us understand the product requirements and the key performance indicators.

Armed with that, we created a feature list and mapped the information architecture and user flows. Those plans became wireframes, which we tested rigorously to catch loopholes, and then final UI screens. The partnership did not stop there — we guided and supported the external developers through the development cycle.

Outcome

The login flow was not just about security; it was about making the first interaction seamless. Users create accounts with their phone number and business tax number, with illustrations explaining the benefits of the app along the way.

Outcome

Dashboard and reports

The home screen is a comprehensive dashboard showing sales statistics, revenue reports and inventory status. Shop owners can add inventory, generate bills and collect payments from one central hub.

Outcome

Inventory and billing

The product section is the central hub for managing stock, designed for simplicity: a visually intuitive layout that surfaces key information about each item at a glance, with a details screen holding descriptions, specifications and images.

Billing is the final step of the purchase cycle. Shop owners scan products individually using the phone camera as a barcode scanner, then move to a payment flow with a choice of payment modes.
